Ohio's voice rang loud and clear yesterday.
The defeat of the dispicable theocrat, social darwinist, oligarch-favoring, anti-democracy, royalist and egomaniac Ken Blackwell is super delicious.
Equally savory, was Deborah Owens Fink's defeat for a seat on the State School Board. Although she is sometimes characterized as a well-spoken advocate of Intelligent Design, as far as I could tell she is somebody who shamelessly will stand before you naked once every last one of her arguments has been stripped bare, and give you her arguments again. Her opponent Tom Sawyer beat her by a margin of 2-1 in a remarkable rout given that there are many evangelical megachurches in the district. Elsewhere the other three theocrat- creationism candidates received a wedgie at the ballot box too.
The Ohio results, except for auditor and the Ohio Supreme Court, demonstrate the wave was a big one. The Dems made gains in both state houses and will likely control redistricting in 2011. Their biggest challenge is to negotiate their way through statehouse gridlock and begin to address Ohio's future by stopping the state race to the bottom.
"And the first reason is this, that we may work in righteousness, and lay the foundation of making the earth a common treasury for all, both rich and poor, that everyone that is born in the land may be fed by the earth his mother that brought him forth, according to the reason that rules in the creation." G.Winstanley
